All students who attend a Madison High School can attend Capital High.

Before a student who lives outside the MMSD boundaries can begin Capital High, they must be eligible to participate in the Madison Metropolitan School District. For more information you can review  Open Enrollment.

Students of the Madison Metropolitan School District do not have to pay to attend Capital High. We follow the same MMSD procedures for enrollment and fees.

Students can arrive at school by walking, biking, driving or Metro Transit bus service.

We do not have dedicated school buses, but Metro does offer two direct routes 641 (from La Follette) and 642 (from Memorial).

Students may qualify for a district-issued bus pass if the meet certain criteria:

1. Reside within the boundaries of the school attendance area
2. Reside more than one and one-half (1.5) miles from their attendance area school.

For students who drive, we do not have a dedicated student parking lot and students must adhere to City of Madison parking restrictions.

Our school will build to approximately 200 students from throughout the Madison School district.

At Capital High, we prioritize student learning through their identified interests. Upon enrollment, students are placed in a grade-level cohort class and generally take classes with these students throughout the day. Within our classes, our curriculum is customized to the student's interests and goals. Our courses support students to develop skills in academic areas, as well as personal growth areas, and to prepare for post-secondary life. Capital High also offers Madison College Dual Credit courses which allow students to earn college credits prior to graduation.

We will be working through this initial school year to offer additional school clubs and sports through MSCR.

We encourage students to follow their passions. If there is an opportunity for students, we will assist you to connect to activities at your school of residence. Unless otherwise approved, these activities need to be outside the Capital High school day from 9:00am - 2:00pm.

Capital High students can continue to participate in selected sports or activities at your previous school of residence.

Capital High is a diploma granting school. Therefore your diploma will reach Capital High. You will not be eligible to receive a diploma through your school of residence.

Capital High has it's own graduation ceremony and celebration and students are not able to participate in another MMSD graduation ceremony.

Enrollment is available at all grade levels based upon the number of seats available.

Or main enrollment period is during the previous school year for the next school year.

Based upon our enrollment, we may open the interview process before the start of MMSD quarters.

Interviews are an opportunity for students to share their interests, goals, and history. We use standardized questions and scoring rubric in order to ensure equitable practices.

Capital High staff interview all students prior to making any decisions regarding admissions. Students are prioritized based on their interview outcomes.

Students and families will be informed by phone or email if you have been accepted or not. The home school referrer will also receive an email updating your admissions status.

Your school’s registrar will also receive an email if you are accepted.

We encourage you to remain engaged at your school of residence and to reapply during the next enrollment window. You may also speak to school staff who provide you with other alternatives that are available.

Yes, as with all MMSD schools, we provide services for students' disabilities.

We are able to accomodate students ELL level 2 and above.
